It's time to celebrate with Studio Samples! Last Friday we launched one of the  biggest updates  in years to our album pricing — and we loved the response to our "unbundling". So to celebrate here's the first of two special offers… Many of you used the lockdown period to rejig your business plans and market offering, which meant — surprise! — lots of requests for another sample sale. We had to hold off while we worked through the repricing, but with that behind us we can go ahead.  All samples — including albums, books, boxes, To View More >>

Our  Loose Print Boxes  have had a bit of a makeover and we’re excited to announce a bunch of lovely new options so you can deliver your clients’ prints in a personalised handmade print box. And they’re fast and affordably priced! We’ve introduced the same personalisation options as we offer in our  Studio Boxes  (for matted prints), such as bow closures and USB inserts, and you’ll be able to add a blind- or foil-embossing of your studio logo, your clients’ names, or something unique like a text quote or a graphic, to every box you order. Continuing on from Katherine’s first post, 'Why Albums?', Katherine has a few more tips about how she educates her clients about printing, and some advice for photographers who might just be starting to offer albums in their packages. How do you educate your clients about the importance of printing, rather than leaving photographs on a USB? An album really is a personal preference, so I try not to push them on my clients, but now I have over 50% of my couples order albums, I love to know they will treasure these for 30, 40 maybe even 50 years! I talk about and share my albums as To View More >>

I originally posted this on a private Facebook forum, where it got a lot of discussion — so what do you think? I've been watching people asking for feedback on their price lists — asking if their pricing should be online, asking if everything should be shown upfront, and these discussions make me think about the real problem with price lists. The way I see it is, most price lists make it sound like photographers sell USBs full of images, or pieces of paper — even boxes full of pieces of paper — and the problem with that is that To View More >>

Written by: Clare Breheny When someone asks me what I do for a living and I tell them I’m a boudoir photographer, the usual response is, ‘Oh, women getting pictures for their husbands,’ or ‘Oh, like a bride giving it as a gift on a wedding day’. Every time I shake my head, and explain that’s it’s WAY more than that… but how do you say modestly that the time you spend with them might actually change how they live their lives? Whilst working with a bride embarking on her wedding day is very rewarding, some of my favourite clients have come to To View More >>

How famous are you? Seriously. In your neighbourhood and around the world? Being world famous is cool, and sometimes it may be important, but for most of us being famous in our own back yard is good enough. Here's a case in point. In New Zealand there's a drink called Lemon and Paeroa (L&P to its friends). It's "world famous in New Zealand", so famous it has its own statue. But I'll bet you've never heard of it, and they probably don't care. Watch this rather weird video if you need a laugh for the day (isn't that Jermaine Clement of Flight of the Conchords doing the voiceover?). We want to To View More >>

Have you noticed our finely polished "tech tips" get less Likes than the other posts? :( So I thought I'd just remind you that us tech support staff are real people too. I went to our nation's capital over the weekend as a bit of a family outing. I didn't go to look at parliament buildings. Boring, in fact I didn't even see them in the distance. I went to the Weta Cave, where Weta Workshop is based and where they made the props for Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings, Hobbit etc. I have to be honest, I nearly had a nerdgasm. Not only because of the artistic ability of the teams who do this work To View More >>

A series about storytelling in album design. We turn the page in a wedding album… It's night time and we're at the reception. We turn another page… We're back outside the church in bright daylight! How confusing is that? Not only is the mood of the imagery completely different, the natural flow of the story is disrupted and any feeling of the 'journey' is lost. Chronology creates flow It may sound too basic to mention, but sticking to the order of the day helps make your images into a story. It also speeds up album design by predetermining the order you lay them out on the pages. Here's something To View More >>
